1. Mingo Point Oyster Roast & BBQ
Enjoy fresh oysters, barbecue ribs, grilled steaks, and delicious desserts at one of Kiawah Island’s beloved events - the Mingo Point Oyster Roast & Bar-B-Que. You will also overlook the beautiful Kiawah River and even listen to live music every Monday during the summer season. Mingo Point is located in the Kiawah Island Resort, and is the resort’s longest-running event. Its family-friendly Kid Zone features hair braiding and arts and crafts. There is also an Artisan Craft Market selling local, handmade jewelry, pottery, and wood carvings.
2. Night Heron Park Nature Center
While there are many activities at Night Heron Park, its nature center is a standout. The center has exhibits that showcase local wildlife and many regular events and activities that inform and inspire visitors to truly enjoy the nature on Kiawah Island. Some of the exhibits include snakes, alligators, turtles, and birds. After enjoying what the Night Heron Park Nature Center has to offer, you can explore the nature trails and natural habitats.
3. Kamp Kiawah
If you are traveling with children between the ages of 3-11, consider letting your kids enjoy all the fun activities of Kamp Kiawah. Your young vacationers will participate games, activities, and adventure with staff counselors. Your children will enjoy all the outdoors has to offer at Kamp Kiawah. Reservations are encouraged, so be sure to plan ahead!
4. Biking Through Kiawah
There are over 30 miles of beautiful trails on Kiawah Island. There are also 10 miles of bikeable beach areas on the island. You can enjoy the spontaneity of hitting the trails without a plan, or you can plan a route before you begin your ride. Along the way, you’ll enjoy scenic views of water, nature, and wildlife. You can also check out some of the popular bicycle routes on the island.
5. St. John’s Kayak Tours
St. John’s Kayak Tours offers guided fishing tours, powerboat excursions, eco kayaking tours, shrimping charters, and educational programs for all ages. These activities are opportunities to explore the Lowcountry’s wetlands, marshes, and beaches. You can also choose to simply rent kayaks or paddleboards and make up your own water activities with your family.
