About Austin
Explore Austin...Live Music Capital of the World®
We are excited to be bringing the 5th Annual Women’s Health Conference to Austin, Texas..
Austin is the capital city of Texas and known as “Live Music Capital of the World®” with outstanding food, great live music venues, fantastic culture, and friendly locals. Besides great music and dining, Austin is especially known for outdoor adventures including hiking scenic trails, relaxing at the city’s natural spring-fed swimming holes, and boating or kayaking on Lady Bird Lake (named for First Lady Bird Johnson) right in the center of the city.
Austin is home to a wide variety of music genres from Tejano and blues to country and rock. There are an incredible number of live music venues including Austin City Limits at the Moody Theater which hosts the world’s longest-running television music program or feel the spirit of the blues or jazz come alive at Antones and the Elephant Room or watch local talent at the Continental Club and dance at Broken Spoke, Austin’s oldest honky-tonk. There’s a type of music for everyone.
The Austin food scene has something for everyone. Try some by-the-pound Texas barbeque, modern Mexican, Southern cuisine, and award-winning sushi. If you get thirsty, there are many breweries, distilleries, and wineries to explore.
Want to experience a little culture? Austin has many museums and art galleries. There’s the LBJ Presidential Library & Museum, the Neill-Cochran House Museum where you can learn about life in 19th century Texas or stop by the University of Texas at Austin campus which has a wide collection of art and cultural sites.
The most memorable popular visitor attraction experience in Austin is watching the estimated one and half million Mexican free-tailed bats make their nightly pilgrimage from the Congress Avenue Bridge around sunset. It is an unforgettable sight!
Austin is a great city but be sure to set aside some time to explore the 14,000 miles of Texas Hill Country, named after the rolling hills of Central Texas. Explore historic towns, prehistoric caverns and enjoy outdoor adventures including hiking, rock climbing, stargazing and experience what it is like to be an authentic Texas Cowboy. There are plenty of vineyards and tasting rooms where you can experience the Rolling Hills local wine.
