Dr. Jan N. Basile earned his medical degree in 1978 from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He then completed his internship and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, where he was also Chief Resident. He is board certified in internal medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the American Society of Hypertension (FASH), and the American Heart Association (FAHA). For many years he served on the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) Board of Directors and recently completed serving within the AHA as Vice-Chair of Clinical Programs on the Council of Hypertension.
His honors and awards include the MUSC School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching award, the Golden Apple award, and, in 2014, he was the first recipient of the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Hypertension Physician of the Year award. In 2019, he received the Marvin Moser Clinical Hypertension Award from the American Heart Association Council on Hypertension. He was President of the Southern Medical Association from 2008-2009.
Currently, he is Professor of Medicine at MUSC. He spent 31 years at the Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center while faculty at MUSC having retired from federal service as Chief of Primary Care in 2009. He continues to direct the resistant hypertension clinic within the Seinsheimer Cardiovascular Health Program in the division of cardiology, a multi-risk factor lipid and resistant hypertension referral clinic at MUSC.
Dr. Basile’s research interests include outcome-based studies involving hypertension, lipid disorders, and diabetes. He has been involved in many large hypertension trials including the ALLHAT, ACCORD, VALUE, ONTARGET, ACCOMPLISH, ACCORD and SPRINT and SPRINT-MIND trials mostly under the auspices of the NHLBI. He was a contributing reviewer of the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC 7) and the 2017 ACC-AHA Guideline for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults. Dr. Basile has published more than 400 original papers, abstracts, and book chapters, as well as a textbook, Hot Topics: Hypertension. He is a contributing author for the hypertension section of "Up To Date".

Dr. Silvio E. Inzucchi received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University in New York City and his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his post-doctoral Fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Yale-New Haven Hospital, in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He is currently Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, where he serves as Clinical Chief of the Section of Endocrinology, Medical Director of the Yale Diabetes Center, and Program Director of the Endocrinology & Metabolism Fellowship.

Dr. Deena E. Kuruvilla is a board certified neurologist, headache specialist and Director of the Westport Headache Institute. She has held clinical appointments at the Yale University School of Medicine prior to starting her own practice.
Dr. Kuruvilla completed her medical internship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Subsequently, she completed her Neurology residency at Brown University in Rhode Island, where she was chief resident. She went on to complete a fellowship in Headache and Facial Pain at the Montefiore Headache Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Kuruvilla has conducted research studies on medical devices, complementary and integrative medicine and procedural approaches for the treatment of headache disorders. She is the former chair of the complementary and integrative medicine section and current chair of the women's health section of the American Headache Society. She has also been an invited reviewer and author for many peer-reviewed publications including Headache, Cephalalgia, JAMA, and the British Medical Journal.
Dr. Kuruvilla’s research and clinical work has been widely featured in the press, including Prevention Magazine, Neurology Today, the Hartford Courant, and the Wall Street Journal.

Dr. John H. Post is an Orthopedic Surgeon from Charlottesville, Virginia with expertise in Sports Medicine, arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Adam C. Stein specializes in the evaluation and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders that involve the small bowel, including Crohn's disease, intestinal failure (such as from short bowel syndrome), celiac disease, enteropathy, fat/protein malabsorption, cystic fibrosis, and obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. Additionally, he sees patients with ulcerative colitis. He performs both video capsule endoscopy as well as double balloon enteroscopy and is able to evaluate abnormal small bowel findings as well as small bowel bleeding. Dr. Stein also specializes in the evaluation and management of malnutrition, providing nutrition through the vein (parenteral nutrition, or "TPN") as well as tube feeding.

Dr. Christopher D. Still has been studying developments in nutrition, metabolic syndrome, and obesity for nearly three decades. His work has included research into genetic markers for obesity, NASH and diabetes; longitudinal assessment and outcomes of the bariatric surgery patient. He also serves as principal investigator of the Geisinger rural elderly nutrition and aging study of some 22,000 individuals.
He has recently edited CRC Press' 2014 Nutrition and Bariatric Surgery, as well as 2014 ASMBS Textbook of Bariatric Surgery, Volume 1. He has also published in multiple journals, including Obesity, PNAS, Lancet Endocrinology, Annals of Surgery, Gastroenterology, Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Surgery for Obesity and Related Disorders, and Human Molecular Genetics, among others. He has lectured on such subjects as vitamin and mineral metabolism; diet, nutrition, and exercise; obesity through the life cycle; and the peri-operative medical and nutritional management of the bariatric surgery patient.
Dr. Still is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Obesity Medicine, the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists, and the American College of Nutrition. He belongs to several professional societies, including The Obesity Society, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Nutrition. He served on the board of directors for The Obesity Action Coalition and is the past President of the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists as well as others editorial boards. He and his program have been featured on CNN, National Public Radio, ABC News, The Discovery Health Channel and several local affiliates. He was awarded the 2011 ASMBS’ Integrated Health Circle of Excellence Award.
Dr. Still received Masters of Science degree from Columbia University Institute of Human Nutrition and his osteopathic medical degree from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at the University of Buffalo at Sisters of Charity Hospital, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a subsequent fellowship in clinical nutrition and obesity treatment at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Dr. Peter P. Toth is President of the American Society for Preventative Cardiology. He is vice-chair of the American Heart Association National Council on Lipids, Lipoproteins, and Atherosclerosis. Dr. Toth is a past president of the National Lipid Association and American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI, and PhD in biochemistry from Michigan State University in East Lansing. Dr. Toth completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Toth has authored and coauthored over 600 publications in medical and scientific journals and textbooks. He is Series Editor of Springer’s textbook collection in Contemporary Cardiology. Dr. Matthew R. Weir is attending physician and Director of the Division of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore. He is also Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Weir’s primary research interests include the use of antihypertensive therapy for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive renal injury in African Americans, and preventing allograft nephropathy in transplant recipients. He has written more than 600 manuscripts and book chapters about these topics. He has edited 8 books: on topics in nephrology, transplantation, and hypertension. He has presented at numerous international scientific association meetings, hospitals, and medical schools. Dr. Weir currently reviews manuscripts for more than 30 major medical journals, including the American Journal of Kidney Disease, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, and Archives of Internal Medicine. He is on the editorial board of 12 journals and is Section Editor of Current Hypertension Reports and Current Opinion in Hypertension and Nephrology. He has 3 active NIH supported grants from NIDDK and two from NHLBI. In addition, he is a member of numerous associations, including the American Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the American Society of Transplantation. Dr. Weir received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He completed his internship and residency programs in medicine at the Waterbury and Yale-New Haven Hospitals in Connecticut and completed his nephrology training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts. He then moved to the University of Maryland where he has been a full-time faculty member since 1983.

Dr. David G. Weismiller is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the new medical school of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He provides full-scope care that includes inpatient and maternity care. David is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville and a fellowship in Maternal-Child Health and graduate degree in Epidemiology at Brown University School of Medicine, Providence. A proponent of "reflection in practice" and "learner-centered instruction," he is recognized nationally for his work in continuing medical education and faculty development. Having taught board review programs for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) for more than 20 years, he is the founding and current chair of the AAFP Family Medicine Board Review Express™, as well as the AAFP's annual Family Medicine Update live course. He is a frequent presenter at AAFP Family Medicine Experience (FMX) and teaches American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Knowledge Self-Assessments throughout the country. Dr. Weismiller is the author of numerous publications on issues related to women's and children's health, and he is an advocate for empowering individuals to make sound health care choices.
