Dr. Alan Baptist is the Director of the Comprehensive Asthma Management Program at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as the Associate Chief of Research, in addition to his role as Allergy/Immunology Fellowship Training Program Director. He received his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago, and then completed an internship and medical residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. He next completed an Allergy/Immunology fellowship at the University of Michigan. He also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Wayne State University, and currently is a faculty member in the University of Michigan Allergy/Immunology division and the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Dr. Baptist has published over 60 peer reviewed articles and book chapters, and is regularly asked to speak at national allergy/immunology conferences. He has served as the Primary Investigator on multiple federal and non-federal research grants. He recently served as a member of the 2020 NIH Asthma Guideline Update Committee.

Dr. Jan N. Basile earned his medical degree in 1978 from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He then completed his internship and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, where he was also Chief Resident. He is board certified in internal medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the American Society of Hypertension (FASH), and the American Heart Association (FAHA). For many years he served on the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) Board of Directors and is now serving within the AHA as Vice-Chair of Clinical Programs on the Council of Hypertension.
His honors and awards include the MUSC School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching award, the Golden Apple award, and, in 2014, he was the first recipient of the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Hypertension Physician of the Year award. Recently, he received the Marvin Moser Clinical Hypertension Award from the American Heart Association Council on Hypertension. He was President of the Southern Medical Association from 2008-2009.
Currently, he is Professor of Medicine at MUSC. He spent 31 years at the Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center while faculty at MUSC having retired from federal service as Chief of Primary Care in 2009. He remains a volunteer at the VA, this his 43rd year at that hospital. He continues to direct the resistant hypertension clinic within the Seinsheimer Cardiovascular Health Program, a multi-risk factor lipid and resistant hypertension referral clinic at MUSC.
Dr. Basile’s research interests include outcome-based studies involving hypertension, lipid disorders, and diabetes. He has been involved in many large hypertension trials including the ALLHAT, ACCORD, VALUE, ONTARGET, ACCOMPLISH, ACCORD and SPRINT and SPRINT-MIND trials most under the auspices of the NHLBI. Most recently he has been involved in diabetes outcome trials with GLP1RA's including REWIND and most recently SURPASS-CV Outcome trial. He was a contributing reviewer of the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC 7) and the 2017 ACC-AHA Guideline for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults. Dr. Basile has published more than 400 original papers, abstracts, and book chapters, as well as a textbook, Hot Topics: Hypertension. He is a contributing author for the hypertension section of "Up To Date".

Dr. Francis L. Counselman is Professor and the Chidester Endowed Chair of Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr Counselman is past-President of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (2014-2015) and the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (2002-2003). He is the recipient of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) "Award for Outstanding Contribution in Education" (2017), the Parker J Palmer "Courage to Teach" Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (2005), the 2003 Residency Director of the Year Award from the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Alanna A. Morris currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Heart Failure Research in the Division of Cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine. Her clinical time is spent as faculty for Emory’s Center for Heart Failure Therapy and Transplantation. She received her undergraduate degree from Xavier University of Louisiana, and her medical degree from the Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts in 2008. Subsequently, she came to Emory University to complete fellowships in general cardiology in 2012, and advanced heart failure and transplant in 2013. After completion of her fellowship training, Dr. Morris also joined the faculty of the Emory Clinical Cardiovascular Research Institute in 2013. Her research interests include studying the importance of non-modifiable risk factors such as race/ethnicity and gender, as well as social determinants of health that may contribute to excess disease in high risk populations. Finally, her research examines race- and gender-based differences in outcomes in patients with heart failure, and after heart transplantation and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation.

Dr. Eddie Needham is the Program Director and Academic Chairman for the AdventHealth Winter Park Family Medicine Residency Program in Winter Park, Florida. Additionally, he is a Professor of Medicine at UCF College of Medicine and Professor of Medicine at Loma Linda University College of Medicine. He practices full-service family medicine providing care from “conception to resurrection”. He has taught family medicine for 25 years and is on the AdventHealth Physician Network Board of Managers. He served as a physician in the US Army for seven years. In 2013, Dr. Needham received the Full-Time Florida Family Physician Educator award. He has previously received the AFMRD Gold Award as a Program Director in 2017, the GAFP Teacher of the Year in 2007 and the 1996 AAFP Parke-Davis Teacher awards. It is his joy and passion to teach all students of medicine the wonders of the human body. He loves his wife of 33 years, his five adult children and first granddaughter, the rigors of triathlons, the wonder and surprise of fishing, and mountain top experiences with friends.

Dr. Veronica K. Piziak is Emeritus Director for the Division of Endocrinology and Director of the Diabetes Center for Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas. She has attained the rank of Professor of Medicine at Texas A&M University College of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio and received her specialty training/fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, OH. Her patient care emphasis is on diabetes, lipids disorders, and osteoporosis prevention and treatment and professional activities include obesity and osteoporosis research. She has been on the list of Super Doctors in Texas from 2004-2018 and Best Doctors in America 2000-2016. She has published numerous papers, lectures extensively, and organizes CME activities.

Dr. Ramon L. Rodriguez is a Professor of Neurology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. After this, he completed a Fellowship in the Medical and Surgical Management of Movement Disorders and has been practicing academic medicine since then. Dr. Rodriguez has been involved in more than 40 research studies and more than 50 publications in both national and international journals. He is currently the director of the National VA PD consortia in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Andrew W. Urban is Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. Dr Urban graduated from the University of Illinois College Of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and ID and is certified as a HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He has received numerous teaching awards and is extensively involved in medical education at all levels. Dr. Salim S. Virani is a Professor in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Research Sections at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is also an investigator in the Health Policy, Quality, and Informatics Program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA HSR&D Center of Innovation in Houston, TX. His clinical practice includes being a Preventive Cardiologist at Baylor College of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, with a special emphasis on management of complex dyslipidemias. He also serves as the Director for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Virani’s research portfolio aims to understand several domains in the delivery of high quality primary and secondary cardiovascular disease preventive care including effectiveness, equity, safety, and efficiency. Via funded research grants from the Department of Veterans Affairs, American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association, his team is evaluating models of delivery of cardiovascular disease preventive care, how to leverage machine learning to identify statin intolerance, and how point-of-care informatics driven interventions can improve guideline-concordant care delivery. His team is also evaluating how best to leverage technology to deliver high-quality care in Low-Middle Income Countries. He has authored or co-authored >450 peer-reviewed publications or book chapters (several with his mentees) related to various preventive therapies including cholesterol, blood pressure control and aspirin therapy with several in high-impact journals such as Circulation, European Heart Journal, JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Cardiology, and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Virani has been a recipient of the Scott Grundy Award for Excellence in Lipids Metabolism Research from the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Jeremiah Stamler Distinguished Young Investigator Research Award. Dr. Virani serves as the Chair for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Section of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and Chair for the AHA's Cardiovascular Disease Statistics Committee. He also serves as the Chair for the Research and Publications Committee of the ACC’s PINNACLE Registry (the largest outpatient cardiovascular disease care delivery registry in the world). He also serves as the Associate Editor for Innovations for ACC.org and the Chair for Digital Strategy for the cardiovascular disease prevention related content for ACC.org. He has been a panel member for the 2018 AHA/ACC Multisociety Cholesterol Guidelines and the 2019 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. C. Wayne Weart received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1971 from the University of Georgia. He served his residency in Hospital Pharmacy at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC in 1972. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1974. Dr. Weart is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcome Sciences in the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy, as well as Professor of Family Medicine in the College of Medicine, MUSC. Prior to his teaching at the Medical University, Dr. Weart instructed at West Virginia University in pharmacy and family medicine.
Dr. Weart has more than 100 publications and he has given scores of lectures to numerous professional groups and societies. He has received outstanding teacher awards at both West Virginia University and MUSC and has been named Hospital Pharmacist of the Year in both South Carolina and West Virginia.
In 1991, Dr. Weart was among the first pharmacists to become a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. In 1992, he was honored for his excellence in pharmacy practice and designated a Fellow of the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists. Dr. Weart was named a Primary Care Policy Fellow for 1999 by the U.S. Public Health Service and he was honored by the Alumni Association of the MUSC College of Pharmacy as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2002. He also received the Bowl of Hygeia Award from the SC Pharmacy Association in 2003 for outstanding service to the community and the profession of pharmacy and the George D. Schwerin Mentor Award, from the South Carolina Society of Health System Pharmacists in 2004. In 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 he was recognized by the MUSC College of Pharmacy student body for his excellence in education by the Golden Mortar and Pestle Award. In 2008, the MUSC Board of Trustees named Dr. Weart as a Master Teacher. In 2012 he received the Proctor and Gamble National Leadership Award from the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society. In 2014 he was awarded the Ralph M. Wilkie Distinguished Lifetime Service Award by the SC Pharmacy Association Board of Directors. In 2015 he received the Kenneth Flinchum Distinguished Service Award from the SC Society of Health System Pharmacists. Dr. Weart served on the Board of Directors of the SC Pharmacists Association and as President and Chairman of the Board for 2010-2011. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy from 2009-2013 and is the President of the Waring Library Society for 2014-2015. He is one of many Hot Dog Ministry volunteers involved with serving the homeless of Charleston.

Dr. Green’s research has focused primarily upon strategies to treat diabetes mellitus and reduce the risk of cardiovascular and other diabetes-related complications. She is currently a member of the American Diabetes Association’s Professional Practice Committee, which publishes the organization’s annual Standards of Care in Diabetes.

Dr. Heather M. Johnson is a Cardiologist and Preventive Cardiologist at the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute of Boca Raton Regional Hospital/Baptist Health South Florida, and a Clinical Affiliate Associate Professor of Florida Atlantic University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology, Master of Population Health, and Doctor of Medicine degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She graduated with Honors from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business with a Master of Medical Management. Prior to moving to Boca Raton, Florida, she practiced as a Noninvasive Cardiologist and Preventive Cardiologist for 10 years at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and served as an Associate Professor with Tenure at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health. Dr. Johnson is a leader in population health, heart disease prevention, and women’s health. She has led multiple research studies funded through the National Institute of Health with over 50 research publications. She is active with multiple medical organizations including the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Preventive Cardiology, and WomenHeart. Dr. Johnson is a guest medical expert on television newscasts, radio shows, and podcasts. She has received numerous awards. Notably, in 2018, Dr. Johnson was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and in 2019, she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society.

Dr. Kay Roussos-Ross is an Associate Professor in the Departments of OB/GYN and Psychiatry and is currently the Division Chief of the Division of Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at UF graduating with Research Honors from the College of Medicine and receiving her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2002. Dr. Roussos-Ross first completed a residency in Psychiatry and joined the UF Department of Psychiatry as an Assistant Professor and Medical Director of the Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit with a primary area of focus in Perinatal Psychiatry. Dr. Roussos-Ross continued further in pursuing her interest in women’s health with a second residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, which she completed in 2012, at which time she joined the Department of OBGYN.
Dr. Roussos-Ross is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. Her areas of focus include high-risk obstetric patients with co-morbid mood, other psychiatric, and substance use disorders. Dr. Roussos-Ross’s clinical practice also includes general obstetrics, gynecology and surgical gynecology. In 2017, she initiated a perinatal mood disorders clinic within the obstetrics clinics providing immediate and easy access to pregnant patients with psychiatric concerns. She is the chair of the Committee for the Healthcare of Underserved Women for ACOG District XII and is a member of Florida’s Pregnancy Related Mortality Review Committee. Her research interests include perinatal psychiatric disorders, perinatal substance use disorders, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and perimenopausal mood disorders. She lectures nationally and regionally on these topics.

Dr. Andrew W. Urban is Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. Dr Urban graduated from the University of Illinois College Of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and ID and is certified as a HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He has received numerous teaching awards and is extensively involved in medical education at all levels. His clinical interests include primary care of individuals with HIV and consultative general infectious diseases.

Dr. C. Wayne Weart received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1971 from the University of Georgia. He served his residency in Hospital Pharmacy at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC in 1972. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1974. Dr. Weart is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcome Sciences in the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy, as well as Professor of Family Medicine in the College of Medicine, MUSC. Prior to his teaching at the Medical University, Dr. Weart instructed at West Virginia University in pharmacy and family medicine.
Dr. Weart has more than 100 publications and he has given scores of lectures to numerous professional groups and societies. He has received outstanding teacher awards at both West Virginia University and MUSC and has been named Hospital Pharmacist of the Year in both South Carolina and West Virginia.
In 1991, Dr. Weart was among the first pharmacists to become a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. In 1992, he was honored for his excellence in pharmacy practice and designated a Fellow of the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists. Dr. Weart was named a Primary Care Policy Fellow for 1999 by the U.S. Public Health Service and he was honored by the Alumni Association of the MUSC College of Pharmacy as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2002. He also received the Bowl of Hygeia Award from the SC Pharmacy Association in 2003 for outstanding service to the community and the profession of pharmacy and the George D. Schwerin Mentor Award, from the South Carolina Society of Health System Pharmacists in 2004. In 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 he was recognized by the MUSC College of Pharmacy student body for his excellence in education by the Golden Mortar and Pestle Award. In 2008, the MUSC Board of Trustees named Dr. Weart as a Master Teacher. In 2012 he received the Proctor and Gamble National Leadership Award from the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society. In 2014 he was awarded the Ralph M. Wilkie Distinguished Lifetime Service Award by the SC Pharmacy Association Board of Directors. In 2015 he received the Kenneth Flinchum Distinguished Service Award from the SC Society of Health System Pharmacists. Dr. Weart served on the Board of Directors of the SC Pharmacists Association and as President and Chairman of the Board for 2010-2011. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy from 2009-2013 and is the President of the Waring Library Society for 2014-2015. He is one of many Hot Dog Ministry volunteers involved with serving the homeless of Charleston.
