These two 4-hour virtual interactive workshops will provide participants with training and practice in basic to more advanced suturing and wound management techniques. The workshops are catered to all skill levels, from the beginner to the advanced clinician who just needs a refresher. Our live instructors will provide you with the skills you need to manage wounds and perform the suturing techniques required in the Primary Care and urgent care settings. Workshop registration includes suture kits and a high-quality model.

Proper evaluation and management of wounds is critical to ensuring positive patient outcomes. This case-based course is designed to increase the participant's scope-of-practice in managing acute traumatic wounds as they present in the outpatient setting. Improve patient care and your value to your practice with essential procedural skills by exploring common, but potentially problematic, cases from presentation to follow-up including: aseptic technique, proper use of skin adhesives and alternate wound closure techniques, basic suturing, how to properly assess and manage common wounds including simple lacerations, abrasions, avulsions, bites and puncture wounds, incision and drainage of abscesses, local and regional anesthesia techniques and appropriate antibiotic therapies.
Upon the completion of this hands-on workshop, participants should be able to:
- Evaluate common acute traumatic injuries as they present in the outpatient setting.
- Assess and repair simple lacerations using aseptic technique and a variety of closure methods.
- Explain proper antibiotic indications, tetanus prophylaxis, rabies prophylaxis and instruct the patient in appropriate post-procedural care.
- Properly assess acute traumatic wounds in order to determine proper management, referrals and follow-up.
- Choose appropriate wound management materials and equipment.
- Determine appropriate suture techniques according to wound and patient characteristics.
- Demonstrate a variety of essential percutaneous suture technique.
- Demonstrate proper intradermal suture technique.
- Demonstrate alternate methods of acute wound management for non- suturable wounds including skin adhesives.

Many “complex” traumatic wounds are referred to specialists either unnecessarily or prematurely - or simply repaired improperly. This case-based course is designed to increase the participant’s scope-of-practice in managing complicated acute traumatic wounds. By exploring common, but frequently problematic, cases from injury and management to post-repair follow-up, participants will learn specialized repair techniques that will improve patient outcomes. This advanced wound management course is designed for participants who are already competent in basic wound repair techniques and seek to elevate their skill set to the next level.
Upon the completion of this hands-on workshop, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate multilayer cosmetic wound closure techniques.
- Apply important pearls and ‘tricks-of-the–trade’ to improve wound closure outcomes.
- Properly apply general and loose closure techniques.
- Discuss anesthesia techniques for various types of traumatic wounds.
- Apply methods of proper anatomic boarder alignment.
- Demonstrate appropriate wound excision and debridement techniques.
- Explain concepts and applications of delayed primary repair.
- Demonstrate management and repair of single and multiple flap lacerations.
- Demonstrate management and repair complex parallel lacerations.
- Manage a variety of fingertip injuries including distal tip amputations and nail bed lacerations.
- Identify and prevent complications associated with complex nasal lacerations.
- Properly manage complex nasal lacerations.
- Identify and prevent complications associated with complex ear and cheek lacerations.
- Demonstrate methods of evaluating critical cheek anatomy.
- Properly manage earlobe and helix repair.
- Perform dog-ear deformity repair.
