Sheldon Simeon
One of these famous chefs is Sheldon Simeon. Simeon’s talent was showcased on Bravo TV’s Top Chef and walked away as a top finalist and winner of the “Fan Favorite” award in both Season 10 and Season 14. Simeon has had a robust career and has worked at Star Noodle, Leoda and Migrant Maui, all top restaurants in Hawaii. In fact, in 2014, Simeon was named in Hawaii Magazine as one of the Top 5 Best Hawaiian Chefs of 2014. The famous chef’s most recent venture is at a restaurant called Tin Roof.
Tin Roof is Simeon’s brain child, serving up his own versions of classic Hawaiian dishes such as pork belly bowls and garlic noodles. Roy Yamaguchi
Another top chef with deep connections to the Hawaiian island of Maui is world renowned Chef Roy Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi was born in Tokyo, Japan, but had a grandfather who owned and operated a tavern in Wailuku, Maui. His father was also born in Hawaii, tying this chef to the island state and influencing his path as a celebrity chef.
Yamaguchi is credited with the creation of “Hawaiian Fusion® Cuisine.” This particular style of cuisine that includes seafood with a blend of spices and ingredients that are sourced locally.
Yamaguchi has done a number of incredible things to influence the cooking sphere of Hawaii. Namely, Yamaguchi founded the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival. The Festival is an event that takes place once a year, drawing in the best chef talent, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and more. Annual Festival
In addition to his contributions through the annual Festival, Roy Yamaguchi has also opened a number of restaurants called “Roy’s” worldwide. Roy’s Kaanapali is Yamaguchi’s restaurant on the island of Maui, offering Hawaiian inspired food with an international twist.
