The Best View in Juneau
The Mount. Roberts Tramway remains one of the most popular attractions in Juneau since it first began operating in 1996. The tram is the only one of its kind in all of southeast Alaska and is one of the most vertical in the world. The smooth ride takes guests over 1800 ft up the mountain and gives guests stunning views of temperate rainforests, downtown Juneau, and the Gastineau channel. Once guests have reached the top of the mountain, they are greeted with the gentle view of a sub-alpine meadow. There are numerous other activities available to enjoy including numerous wildlife viewing platforms and an informative nature center.
One of the most popular activities is Chiklat Theater. Guests can often go to see live music and performances from many Alaskan Natives. The center also continuously shows an award winning short film titled Seeing Daylight. The film has a runtime of approximately 18 minutes and features the history and culture of the Tlingit people and even teaches guests a few words in their language. Another popular activity are the hiking trails located around the park which vary in length and intensity. One of the most popular and accessible is the Mount Roberts Trail which starts at the top of the tramway and ends at the base of the mountain. This trail is about 2 miles long and takes hikers up and down several switchbacks. Along the trail guests will have stunning views of the mountainside and plenty of opportunities to encounter the local wildlife.
