A Preserve Fit for a Princess

Located where the Matanzas River and Pellicer creek intersect, Princess Place Preserve has the oldest homestead in the United States.

The history of the land dates as far back as 1791 when the Spanish Crown gave a grant to the land to grow oranges. Eventually, in 1886 the land was settled by an ambitious man named Henry Cutting who constructed a hunting lodge and is best known for creating Florida’s first in-ground pool.

The property eventually became known as Cherokee Grove and it attracted numerous wealthy visitors from New England. When Henry Cutter died, his widowed wife, Angela married exiled Russian Prince Boris Scherbatoff. The two were known to host numerous royal families in their homestead and the land was given its current name. Princess Place Preserve became an official park in 1993 where its unique beauty and pristine wilderness became a place for everyone to enjoy.

The park is approximately 1500 acres and guests can enjoy almost any outdoor activity they can think of on the grounds. Many guests enjoy hiking one of the many relaxing trails and getting a glimpse into Florida’s magical past. The grounds are still home to the old lodge and are as pristine as they once were in days gone by.

The park is home to numerous different species of local wildlife, which can be enjoyed from a bicycle or horseback ride on special trials located throughout the park. Many guests enjoy taking a kayak ride through the local marshes. Many former attendees of the Continuing Education Company’s annual conference in Palm Coast, Florida have stated that the wildlife viewing was one of the many memorable parts of their trip. Whether you are interested in history or just like looking at nature, the Princess Place Preserve has something beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
