USS Midway Museum
The USS Midway Museum is located on the naval pier in San Diego. The main attraction is the USS Midway, which is the longest serving aircraft carrier, active from 1945 to 1992. This noble aircraft carrier was the only carrier to make it through the entire Cold War. With over 60 exhibits for all ages and over 29 restored aircrafts, the USS Midway Museum is an attraction you will want to visit again and again.
Take a walk through naval fleet history with a guided or self-guided audio tour and preview different versions of aircrafts. Make sure to visit the Hanger Deck, Flight Deck, and Below Deck exhibits to get a feel for what life on the USS was like for the 200,000 sailors that served on the carrier. Of course, there is more than educational exhibits for you to explore, fun-filled activities like flight simulators and Top Gun Movie night, and more are available during your visit. San Diego Air and Space Museum
Located in Balboa Park, San Diego Air and Space Museum provides a remarkable visual of our aviation history and how that technology affects our present life and future. Their mission is to preserve and educate the significance of aviation advancement. You get a close look of rare and restored aircrafts used in some of the infamous wars that led to our country’s freedom. Visit their World War I and the World War II gallery to pay homage to those who served. The museum offers exciting events and exhibits to educate and inspire the minds of future aviators. For example, they house a program called Little Engineers, an engaging STEM program for preschoolers. Don’t worry parents, they also offer special membership events for adults too. Celebrate your next birthday or special event with them.
