Explore the Beautiful Botanical Gardens of Maui
With over two thousand species of plants and eight acres to explore along the slopes of the beautiful Mount Haleakala, Kula Botanical Gardens is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Maui.
Originally started in 1968 by Warren and Helen McCord to demonstrate Warren’s landscape architecture business the site became so well known for its wonderfully curated plants that it evolved into a full-fledged tourist destination.
The Warren's
While the original owners have since retired their spirit lives on with the numerous different species of plants they collected including one of the largest Koa trees in the world. The tropical and semi-tropical plants have been beautifully curated along several unique pathways throughout the garden which weaves through awe-inspiring rock formations, waterfalls, a covered bridge, and even a couple koi ponds.
As you walk along the beautiful pathways take your time to appreciate the beautiful flowers and flora that blend seamlessly into the mountain’s mighty slope. Be sure you take plenty of pictures if you get there early enough you may be able to take a picture of the sun as it rises through the gardens.
The Kula Botanical Garden
There is more to see than just plants at the Kula Botanical Garden. The grounds also feature an aviary with a collection of local bird species which you may get to see perched on the branches and stems of several of the plants scattered throughout the park.
One of the most recent and popular additions to the park is a collection of chameleons. You can find these little guys in their own area of the park as they change colors, rest, and play in the warm Hawaiian sun. The Kula Botanical Garden is an amazing place to stop and relax if you’re attending one of our numerous conferences on the beautiful island of Maui. The gardens are fun places to explore and learn for people of all ages.
