You can wander through this marvel of landscape architecture through a maze of tropical plants and waterfalls, all while butterflies of all species and colors fly around you.
Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory
Even though, the main attraction of the conservatory is its zoological garden, the conservatory also boasts a museum dedicated to butterflies. The museum allows guests to witness the life cycle of a variety of different butterflies up close as caterpillars on their host plants. Visitors can also read about the anatomy and physiology of different species and look at a map that shows butterflies which are unique to certain countries and climates.
General admission to the conservatory is open from 9am to 5pm daily and includes a tour of the indoor landscape as well as the museum for twelve dollars, there are discounted rates for children, seniors, large groups, and the military for more information on general admission click here.
The conservatory also offers a few additional specialty programs for guests with different interests. One of the most popular is Flamingle, which allows up to six guests daily from 4:45-5:45pm to get up close and personal with two flamingos, Rhett and Scarlett, for more information and rates click here.
Twilight Tour
The conservatory also offers the Twilight Tour for guests interested in the unique animal behaviors that can only be witnessed at dusk for more information and rates click here. Besides the main attractions there is also a gift shop and an art gallery for those who are interested in a unique souvenir. The gift shop includes unique things from nature from all over the world.
The art gallery is home to works of art made by artist Sam Trophin who has created pieces of art made from butterflies for over thirty years. These butterflies were allowed to live out their full lives in farms and are meticulously arranged in colorful kaleidoscope patterns. Each piece contains information about the butterfly species and the way to care for your work of art.
