Fun Shopping Areas in Austin: Where to Explore Near the Hyatt Regency

Austin is known not only for its live music and food but also for its eclectic shopping neighborhoods. From trendy boutiques to quirky vintage stores, the city offers retail experiences as unique as its culture.

If you’re staying at the Hyatt Regency Austin, you’re in the perfect spot to explore several of these shopping districts—some within easy walking distance, others just a quick drive away.

South Congress Avenue (SoCo) – Walkable

Just a 15–20-minute walk from the Hyatt across the Congress Avenue Bridge, South Congress Avenue (SoCo) is Austin’s most iconic shopping district. This stretch is lined with boutiques, vintage shops, and artisan markets. Popular stops include Allen’s Boots for classic cowboy boots, Kendra Scott for jewelry and Uncommon Objects which is self-described as “your eccentric uncle’s attic on steroids”. In between shopping, you’ll find plenty of cafés, food trucks, and live music spots that make SoCo a perfect half-day outing.

Second Street District – Walkable

Located downtown on the north side of Lady Bird Lake, the Second Street District is about a 15-minute walk from the Hyatt via the South First Street Bridge or Congress Avenue Bridge. This urban shopping area offers a modern, upscale vibe with boutiques like Austin Rocks for music-inspired fashion, ByGeorge for high-end clothing, and local jewelers and home décor shops. Its proximity to dining, coffee shops, and the Austin City Limits Live venue make it easy to spend a few hours here.

The Domain – Short Drive

If you’re looking for a more traditional shopping experience with national retailers, The Domain is about a 20-minute drive north of downtown. This open-air complex combines high-end designers like Louis Vuitton and Neiman Marcus with popular favorites such as Apple and Zara. It’s less quirky than downtown Austin shopping districts but great for travelers who want a mix of luxury, fashion, and dining in one place.

East Austin – Short Drive

For a truly eclectic shopping adventure, head to East Austin, just across I-35 from downtown (5–10 minutes by car). This neighborhood is known for its artsy, independent shops and vintage finds. Stroll along East 6th and East Cesar Chavez streets, where you’ll discover record stores, unique clothing boutiques, and pop-up markets. It’s less walkable from the Hyatt but worth the quick ride-share for its creative and bohemian atmosphere.

North Loop – Short Drive

If vintage and quirky are your style, the North Loop district (about a 15-minute drive from the Hyatt) is your go-to. Packed with retro shops, record stores, and thrift gems, this neighborhood is beloved by locals who like to keep things “weird.” Places like Room Service Vintage and Monkey See Monkey Do make it a playful shopping destination.
