Kiawah Island - Offering the Very Best in Golf

Kiawah Island, a small island off the coast of South Carolina, may go unnoticed on a map, but it is known as a premier destination for golfers, boasting some of the most elaborate and challenging courses in the country. Kiawah Island is located only 25 miles south of the iconic Charleston, South Carolina and is approximately 13.4 square miles large. Of these 13 miles, most of the land is taken up by PGA golf courses and is the ideal spot for avid golfers and dabblers alike.

There are a total of seven golf courses on the island, making this island a golf lover’s paradise. The Kiawah Island Golf Resort owns and operates five out of these seven courses, making it an attraction and destination that you do not want to miss. One of Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s most notable courses is The Ocean Course. The Ocean Course is ranked the #4 Public Golf Course in the U.S. and is only the fourth course in the world to have hosted every major PGA of America’s men’s championships. These major events include the Ryder Cup (in 1991), the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid (2007) and the PGA Championship (2005).

All throughout the course, players can take in the sights, sounds and smells of the Atlantic Ocean, all while enjoying the game. In addition to offering some of the best golf and views in the country, Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers visitors world-class accommodations and lodging. The Resort offers visitors the chance to stay at The Resort Villas or The Sanctuary Hotel. The Resort also offers spa packages, tennis, swimming, nature tours, island dining and more, making it a one-stop getaway.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort is scheduled to host 2021’s PGA Championship. The Championships will take place on The Ocean Course, drawing visitors from around the world to take part in the iconic event. The nearly three mile long course offers even the best of the best a challenge, as they have to play against ocean breeze.

Not only did Kiawah Island host the Ryder Cup in 1991 on The Ocean Course, it also went down in golf history as one of the most memorable and nail-biting games to date. In 1991, the victor came down to the last putt of the last hole on The Ocean Course. Known today as the “War by the Shore,” the American team went head-to-head with Europe, and ended up winning the Cup after Bernhard Langer on the European team missed a six foot putt.

From its historic American win in 1991 to the ocean views and breeze, Kiawah Island is one of the greatest destinations for those who love the game of golf. Stay in a stunning villa while enjoying days out on the courses and fine dining in the evening. Kiawah Island is a place that will not disappoint.
