See St. Augustine's Wonderful Wild Reserve

One of St. Augustine’s most unique attractions is the Wild Reserve, a local nonprofit organization that aims to educate guests about the numerous species of exotic animals that it cares for.

The organization was started by zoologist Deborah Warrick who has been involved in rescuing animals since 1981. Many of the animals came from the homes of owners who were unprepared for the care required to take care of these majestic animals or from abusive owners who starved or otherwise mistreated these unique creatures.

The reserve is perhaps best known for its large collection of big cats including tigers, ligers, lynxes, pumas, and even an African lion that once belonged to Michael Jackson. Although these cats make up the bulk of the reserve’s wildlife species, it is also home to numerous other species of other apex predators including wolves and black bears as well as several species of smaller exotic mammals and even some familiar barnyard animals that needed a new home.

Taking a tour of the reserve is the perfect afternoon activity when attending Continuing Education Company’s Primary Care CME Conferences. Palm Coast, FL is only a 45 minute drive to St. Augustine. Please be advised that all tours must be reserved in advance. Don’t worry though because the wait will be well worth it.

All tours are guided by a wildlife professional across all seven acres of the preserve. Guests will be able to get within five to ten feet of every animal and will be given an introduction to the species and how the reserve ended up acquiring them. Perhaps the most unique part of every tour is the tiger bubble bath.

Make sure you bring your camera with you to get plenty of shots as you watch these amazing animals jump and play in the large pools. These baths are not only cute to watch they also help keep these creatures’ coats clean and free of parasites like ticks and fleas.

If you love animals or are just looking for an exciting place to take your family make sure you book a tour, you will not only get the unique opportunity to get up close to many beautiful creatures you’ll be supporting a good cause at the same time. If you want to see the animals and the reserve in more detail a special VIP tour is also available if you are interested. If you’re visiting St. Augustine don’t miss this amazing opportunity to see a whole menagerie of unique animals.
