The Stable Climate of San Diego
Unlike many other American cities which experience four distinct seasons, San Diego is a city that has two. The city experiences a short and dry warm season reaching its peak for about three months. The cooler season is longer and reaches its climax for about four months. The length of the cooler season may sound unwelcome to a potential visitor, but San Diego has one of the most stable and welcome climates in the nation.
The dry season typically lasts from July to October with a temperature range between 68 and 77 degrees with August being the warmest month on average. The season is marked with little rainfall, low winds, and clear skies, which makes it the ideal time for visitors to take in the sights. The cooler season typically lasts from November to April with a temperature range of 50 to 65 degrees with December being the coolest month on average. The cool season is marked with cloudier skies, winds, and light precipitation. Between the months of May and June, the temperature gradually increases and the precipitation lessens to bring back in the warmer season. San Diego gets an average rainfall of 0.04 inches with the most rain falling at the end of February. Although there is a stronger chance of rain during the cool season, San Diego is only prone to rain for about four months. The rest of the year is marked by a drier and more temperate climate. The stability of San Diego’s weather is a major factor in why it is consistently ranked in the top most livable cities in the nation. The climate is neither uncomfortably hot or cold and neither too stormy or too dry. Wallethub has placed San Diego in its top five most livable cities and the city is often praised for its safety, affordability, quality of life, and its year-round stable temperature.
