Honolua Bay on Maui's northwest shore is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists alike. Honolua Bay is home to great snorkeling, surfing, and scuba diving.
During the winter high surf season, Honolua has been known to have a powerful wave that offers incredibly long rides. The bluffs above the bay offer a great vantage point for visitors to watch the pros from a safe distance.
Honolua Bay
Honolua Bay, meaning “two harbors” in Hawaiian, is an area of rich environmental, cultural, and historical importance on Maui. The area was settled by Dr. Dwight Baldwin in 1836. From its humble beginnings to the present, Honolua Bay remains an attraction for locals and tourists alike.
During the calmer summer months, Honolua Bay is a popular destination for snorkeling and scuba diving. As part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District, the bay has an abundance of fish and coral formations to explore.
Throughout the year, you can also catch beautiful and serene sunrises and sunsets along the shoreline. There are also exciting blowholes near Honolua Bay that are great to check out. About 10 minutes from Honolua Bay on the north shore is the Nakalele Blowhole. While blowholes are not the most reliable attractions you can count on, the Nakalele Blowhole offers a beautiful hike that creates an adventure all its own.
