Juneau, the capital of Alaska, is a popular spot for tourists and adventurers alike to stop and see, drawing in visitors from around the world. Juneau, Alaska is known for its stunning wilderness, glaciers, and wildlife, including the endangered bald eagle among many other stunning species. Juneau is unique in the fact that no roads lead to the city. Juneau is only accessible by plane or by boat. In fact, Juneau is a popular destination for cruise ships, with a large and active port into the city. Juneau has everything from cafes and coffee shops to souvenir shops complete with Alaska memorabilia and more. Whether you are looking to take a stroll through this unique U.S. city, do some hiking, or travel up to the edge of a glacier, Juneau has it all.

1. Tracy Arm Fjord

When visiting the capital of Alaska, one must-see is the Tracy Arm Fjord, a 30-plus mile fjord located near the city. Take a boat for an up close and personal view of the fjord with the breathtaking views of the Twin Sawyer blue glaciers, waterfalls and more. Many tour companies offer an up-close look of the falls and glaciers, including a guided boat ride through the fjord. 2. Mendenhall Glacier

Another must-see in Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier. The Mendenhall Glacier is a 13 mile long glacier located within the city limits. You can take in stunning sites of the glacier as well as large ice chunks that have broken off from the glacier in the surrounding lake. Also, be sure to stop by the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center for more information, photos through the years and more. The Visitor Center is open every day 8:00 am to 7:30 pm during the months of May through September and then 10:00 am to 4:00 pm the rest of the year (hours of operation and pricing subject to change).

3. Taku Glacier

Another must-see glacier is the Taku Glacier. The Taku Glacier is the deepest and thickest “alpine temperate glacier” in the world. This glacier is 4,845 feet thick and about 36 miles long. It is mostly located in the boundaries of the Tongass National Forest

4. Alaska State Museum

The Alaska State Museum is also located in Juneau. The museum showcases a number of exhibits and pieces that tell the story of Alaska, including its history and rich heritage. The winter hours of the museum are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. General admission is $7.00, senior admission is $6.00 and children 18 and under are free. 5. Glacier Gardens Rainforest

In addition to glaciers, Juneau, Alaska is also home to a rainforest, complete with stunning flowers and home to Alaskan wildlife.
