Program Overview
Sleep Apnea Explained Clearly is a course designed to clarify, review, and augment the training and understanding of primary care clinicians in their understanding of obstructive sleep apnea. The module included in this course takes a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a video lecture aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.
Sleep Apnea Explained Clearly covers the nature of obstructive sleep apnea and how it is diagnosed, the signs and symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, and the treatment after diagnosis. This CME course will utilize a combination of video and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe how the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea is made including the characteristics of tests such as the polysomnogram and home sleep test.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea.
- Identify the treatment options for obstructive sleep apnea including CPAP, dental appliances, and hypoglossal nerve stimulators.
- Discuss the consequences associated with untreated obstructive sleep apnea and the evidence of these complications.
