Program Overview
Ultrasound Principles and Instrumentation is a course designed to clarify, review, and augment the training of primary care clinicians in their understanding of point-of-care/clinical ultrasound. The modules in this course take a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a series of video lectures aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.
Many clinicians lack a clear understanding of point-of-care/clinical ultrasound. This course aims to improve their understanding of basic ultrasound physics and their clinical application; appropriate ultrasound modes, transducer, and machine settings for general ultrasound applications; common artifacts in ultrasound imaging; and advances in ultrasound imaging including harmonic imaging, compounding, and speckle reduction. This CME course will utilize a combination of videos, quizzes, supplemental readings, and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe basic ultrasound physics and their clinical applications.
- Recognize the common artifacts found in ultrasound imaging.
- Distinguish some advances in ultrasound imaging including harmonic imaging, compounding, and speckle reduction.
